I am really thankful that its Friday and I will be able to relax in the next couple days. I am going to start volunteering at the Center for Wooden Boats tomorrow in hopes that I will get to learn to sail for free! I know that they give a discount based on how many hours you donate so my plan is to cut it down to $0! I am also going to try to get my son out and sailing as they start youth sailing classes at 10 years old and I think it would be a great thing for him to build skills and bolster a belief in his own capabilities. I'll keep you posted!
What with classes, car breakdowns, and work on "this side thing" I have going on, I haven't been spinning too much this past week, so I am hoping to get more of that done as well. Merritt is working on my niddy noddy which will definitely come in handy! He is a very experienced wood worker and I am excited to see the finished product.
have a safe weekend!

Its the weekend! WOOT!
Lots going on this weekend! Going to a movie tonight and tomorrow, Sandy is taking me sailing with one of her friends. He is a boat builder up in Bellingham and was generous enough to offer. I have always had an interest in learning to sail, and am really excited about it.
I have also been doing some spinning. My friend Merritt is making me a niddy noddy to set the twist of the new yarn and I am going to knit it into a hat I am making for a friend of mine who has a self-described "large melon!" (You know who you are!) It has been quite a while since I had done any spinning, so the first few yards are slubby.

Done and gone!
I had posted a picture on FB of Sandy's hat and one of my high school friends said she wanted one too. This morning I finished my latest hat out of the leftovers from Christmas hats and it is already on its way to Julie.
I was hoping to have defeated all the yarn I have in my bucket, but I still have enough left to make one more hat...Damn! I am going to stick to my plan of spinning up the roving I have and knit that into the mix. I think it will go pretty well.

Another hat, another show, and another great weekend!
Finished up a belated "holiday hat" for Donnie last week. I hadn't originally slated one for him, but it seemed like he wanted one so I kicked one out in just a couple of days out of the leftover yarns from the holiday. I think it looks pretty good (sorry about the poor picture quality). I am now working (at a much slower pace) on another hat made out of leftovers! I always feel like I have to conquer the yarn I have before buying more. I am going to take a break from knitting after this one and drop-spin a bag of roving I have been packing around for quite a while.
Over this past weekend, Sandy and I watched the Seahawks play (and win!). It was as much fun if not more watching her get so excited during the game! Then we went out to the Snoqualmie Casino to see Joe Satriani play guitar. Man, can that guy play! I was quite surprised to see all the "old folks" there though...and then I remembered that they were probably the same kids that saw him when I did some 15- or 20-years ago! Hmmm...well, at least I have all my hair still! Ha!

Happy New Year 2011!
What a great new year! 2010 ended with a nice chill day. I started knitting this hat Friday morning and finished it just now. Knitted on and off all day yesterday in between picking up Sandy from her 1/2 day of work, going to meet Linda, Donnie, and Skylar for lunch, a mosey home and a nap, dinner and dessert, more napping I think, a walk up the hill to a good perch to watch the space needle fireworks, and a bunch of popsicles! Really, I was murdering popsicles right and left! Thanks to Lambs Pride, Lana Grossa, and Addi Turbo's for the fun knitting, and my baby Sandy for some great down time!

A good Christmas...
I had a really good Christmas this year! On Christmas eve I was able to hang out with the kids and open presents and play, and on Christmas day we went to Sandy's sister's house to spend the day and have dinner with her family. I did score some excellent presents this year! Sandy bought me a replacement pair of snowshoes (my old ones were thrashed and the bindings broke last year), and a beverage container for trips into the back country. From her family, I got a cool multi-tool (similar to a Leatherman but lighter and cooler!), slippers, flannel pants for lounging around the house, two sweaters, a new set of Addi Turbo's, and a flashlight! We had a great dinner, and then watched the second of the Narnia movies.
As this year comes to a close, I have been enjoying taking account of the blessings in my life. I feel a sense of calm and peace knowing that God is working in my life. This year will be filled with lots of smiles and adventures, I am sure! I hope yours is too :)

Done!
Well, almost done, I just have some assembly to do on one gift, should take about an hour, wrap another, and finish a hat (which Sandy is designing as I knit). Here is a photo of the hat I knit for William. He likes silver and black, so I hope he likes this one OK.
